What is therapy? Therapy holds many titles—counselling, psychotherapy, or simply therapy—but offers the same services. Therapy helps to (1) heal the impacts of past adversity or trauma, (2) reconstruct unconscious belief patterns and associated negative automatic thoughts, and (3) it can help recalibrate an unbalanced nervous system, to name a few. The idea behind most therapies is to make sense of the once senseless acts that have caused inner disarray. Clients often arrive to therapy in despair and are generally ready to heal the wounds they’ve unconsciously avoided or suppressed for months, years, or decades. Clients and their therapists work on harnessing a greater sense of safety, trust, intimacy, control, and esteem through therapy.
What is life coaching? In coaching sessions, a coach will do a full assessment of your life with the use of a genogram. Coaches look for behavioural trends that may be keeping you stuck from moving toward your goals. The coach will support the client in goals setting while working through limiting behaviours and other obstacles by co-creating a plan that puts you on a path toward genuine transformation. Overall, a life coach will help a person grow from neutral ground to reach new heights through an action plan. A therapist will use interventions to assist in the healing and rebalancing of their clients’ inner worlds. This often leads to genuine, newfound perspectives and wisdom.
